Prof. Pedro H. C. Camargo
I was born in Ourinhos-SP, Brazil, in 1981, and my journey in science has taken me across continents and disciplines. I earned my B.Sc. and M.Sc. in Chemistry from the Federal University of Paraná, Brazil, in 2003 and 2005, respectively. In 2005, I was honored to receive the prestigious Fulbright/Capes Fellowship (ranked #1 nationally), which allowed me to pursue my Ph.D. in the USA with Professor Younan Xia's group at the University of Washington, Seattle. In 2007, our group relocated to Washington University in Saint Louis, where I completed my Ph.D. in Biomedical Engineering in 2009.
In 2011, I began my academic career as an Assistant Professor at the University of São Paulo. Over the next few years, I advanced to Associate Professor in 2015 and Full Professor in 2018. Since February 2019, I have been a Professor in the Department of Chemistry at the University of Helsinki, where I lead research focused on designing and synthesizing nanomaterials for nanocatalysis and plasmonic nanocatalysis, striving to solve challenges in green energy and sustainable chemical transformations.
In addition to my research, I serve as an Editor for the Journal of Materials Science and as the Director of the Master's Program in Materials Research at the University of Helsinki. I am deeply committed to mentoring the next generation of scientists and advancing the boundaries of materials science to build a more sustainable future.
